Typical Roman drinking fountains, with their characteristic shape, have provided drinking water to the city since the nineteenth century.

Monumental fountains

An artistic and cultural heritage of inestimable value, they are true works of art that enhance the squares and streets of the Eternal City.

Monumental fountains and social sustainability

We manage nine of the capital's monumental fountains on behalf of the City of Rome.

Monumental fountains are extremely complex structures from the plant-engineering perspective. We ensure the operation of their recirculation and water treatment systems, through which we preserve the fountains and guarantee their conservation for future generations.

The water exiting the plants must be as “neutral” as possible, so as not to damage the marble of the fountains with limescale or other substances. The recirculation systems not only protect the fountain but are also designed to save drinking water; in fact, the monumental fountains are supplied with non-potable water. In the case of the Trevi Fountain, for example, it is fed by the ancient Aqua Virgo aqueduct, a Roman structure dating back to 19 BC that is still perfectly functioning today.
